Ruhr II - Kokerei Hansa
Still on my way to Essen, I also stopped at the Kokerei Hansa which is a former coking plant - now an industrial monument.
I didn’t have much time until the site would close for the day so I skipped the free audio guide and focused on taking pictures.
I started in the old changing rooms which are one of two indoor areas that could be visited. Here, workers could raise their clothes and equipment to the ceiling via chains and lock it in place.
Afterwards, I went for a stroll through the outdoor parts of the plant and looked at all the processing equipment and pipes while the sun was slowly setting.
No more benzene in here:
There also was an old electric(!) locomotive…
…as well as a control panel that clearly had seen better days.
