For this year’s vacation, Jessie and I went to Frankfurt for a couple of days. I had spent a lot of time there for work around 2012. Therefore, I was curious to come back and see what has changed. Also, I think Frankfurt is one of the most underrated cities in Germany.
We had brought our bikes and used them for two day trips - one along the Main towards Mainz and back and the other around Frankfurt following the city’s green belt.
But even on the other days, we rode our bikes through the city and I was impressed by the cycling infrastructure that now exists. The city has a lot of traffic but there are plenty of bike lanes - either just going through parks or on the road but clearly separated.
It was cool to finally see some high-rise buildings again - a rare sight in Germany.
We bought a two day museum pass and checked out all Museums that seemed interesting. Most of them are conveniently located right by the Main which also offered some great views every time we had to cross it.
Another day, we went to the Palmengarten which is a garden in the city that consists of a large outdoor area and then also multiple buildings with more tropical plants. That was new to me but certainly worth a visit.
