Vienna
This year, Jessie and I spent our Christmas break in Vienna.
To not have too long of a drive, we split it in two and stayed for a night in Brno in the Czech Republic. On the way I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of Ionity chargers that are available in Czech Republic - especially compared to the first stretch in Germany where it feels like we’re always taking the wrong routes for charging on their network.
It was interesting to experience Christmas Eve away from home in another city with it initially being very quiet and then eventually after dinner people came out and met with friends for a drink or a walk.
As soon as we arrived in Vienna, we started with a walk on the Central Cemetery which - despite it’s name - is very inconveniently located at the outskirts of the city, requiring a 50min tram ride.
Jessie had already been and told me about animals like deer and hamsters living there so I was hoping to be able to spot some and take some pictures of them. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen and just when I had given up, a hare came from behind a tombstone right in front of us and was just as surprised as myself. It only took him a second to realize his mistake and he was off again.
The next day we went for a hike on the “Stadtwanderweg 2” - one of Vienna’s city hiking trails that take you through the surrounding forests and vineyards and are conveniently accessible by public transport.
On the next day, places closed for Christmas were slowly opening up again and we visited the Prunksaal of the Austrian National Library. This was a great experience with the room being in great shape and one can imagine how it must’ve been to go through books here in the 18th century.
A lot of our remaining time we spent on long walks through the city, admiring the sights and the hordes of tourists that were pushing themselves through the streets.
Overall, this was time well spent and we were lucky with great weather compared to the constant rain that came down back home during the same time.
Oh and look at this pretty 240Z:
